The Campus de la Transition offers several training courses on ecological and social transition for students in higher education as well as professionals in activity or reconversion.
Its will is to gather all the new knowledge and emerging concepts on transition issues and to ensure their transmission to the new generations as well as to companies, institutions and civil society, which are the major actors for a successful systemic transition of our societies.
A unique approach to education in France
Learning differently: an innovative academic approach
Born from the will of four academic figures internationally recognized for their work on transition, the Campus de la Transition relies on an academic council composed of lecturer-researchers from all backgrounds to provide excellent academic teaching paired with innovative pedagogical approach.
This transmission of knowledge is based on a unique pedagogical approach that encompasses both content (systemic, trans- and inter-disciplinary approach to knowledge) and format (mind-body-heart pedagogy).
A common base of knowledge and skills emerging from the collaborative reflection, both theoretical and practical, of more than 70 teacher-researchers, the Handbook of the Great Transition published by Les Liens qui Libèrent Editions in October 2020, is the translation of this approach.
TEACHINGS CONTENT
– Transdisciplinary teaching: economics of transition; responsible management; sustainable finance and accounting; law and globalization; environmental humanities; epistemology of environmental sciences; ecology, philosophy, ethics and spirituality…
– A systemic approach, unprecedented and fundamental, to understand why ecology has become a major lens for understanding the world and how it concerns all dimensions of life and human activities.
– Tools to enable their implementation in various contexts and sectors.
– A radically new pedagogy manifesting in immersion in a place of research and experimentation, the Forges estate where the Campus de la transition is established, which gives life to what is taught and encourages collective involvement and personal appropriation of the issues of transition and its solutions.
During their stay at the Campus, students will :
- Understand the scientific foundations of economic, ecological, climatic and human diagnostics.
- Master new concepts, knowledge and methods.
- Experience transition situations in their systemic and concrete dimension.
- Co-design solutions with multidimensional parameters based on new performance indicators.
- Acquire the intellectual and human capacities to approach the progressive transition of the places and activities that they will invest professionally and personally.
Anchoring & Embodying: a eco-venue for learning about Transition
Its anchorage in the wooded domain of Forges in Seine-et-Marne offers a privileged ground for immersion and experimentation to take the necessary step aside and reconnect with oneself, others and nature.
More than a classical teaching limited to the space of a lecture hall, the Campus offers through its on-site training courses a holistic experience that allows everyone to awaken and open up to the collective and systemic dimension of Transition.
While it favors in situ teaching, the Campus nevertheless offers distance learning formats to enable everyone, especially those who are geographically distant, to learn about ecological and social transition.
A concrete and committed plural training offer
Academic training: three levels of awareness-raising
- Short training courses, integrated into the curricula of the grandes écoles and universities
Since December 2018, the Campus de la Transition has been welcoming master’s degree students from all disciplines such as business and engineering Grande Écoles.
The two- to five-day training program aims to “plant a seed” and raise awareness of the ecological and social challenges posed by climate change and its related upheavals.
These short courses correspond to “off-site” courses for partner schools, where students get to have a fully immersed experience at the Campus de la Transition.

- Oikonomia Summer School: a three-week certified training course, in collaboration with Essec
In the summer of 2020, the Campus de la Transition launched Oikonomia, a three-week “summer school”. This course explores the links between the economy and the ecumene, which is the set of living environments on the planet in which human activity is deployed, on which it depends, and which it contributes to transform.
Developed with ESSEC Business School, it is also open for engineering school students and young professionals.

– Global reflection on the economy of tomorrow, through case studies of sectors and industries up to 2050.
- The T-Camp: an eight-week certified training course, co-designed with the Hummingbird movement and the Coopérative des Oasis
Initiated in the spring of 2019, the T-Camp offers a two-month immersive training course. Building on the success of its two editions and in response to growing demand, T-Camp will expand in 2021 to two eco-venue: the Forges estate, where the Campus de la Transition is located in Seine-et-Marne (near Paris) and the Arvieu Castle in Aveyron (south of France).
In addition to a common core course, three specialties are offered: permaculture, sociology & politics, and territorial dynamics.

Since December 2018, the Transition Campus has trained more than 500 students.
Professional training: AcTeS
Many professional organizations and their stakeholders want to accelerate their ecological, economic and social transition. To respond to this need, which is part of its mission to acculturate the public to transition challenges, the Campus launched the AcTeS (Accelerating Ecological and Social Transition) training course in the fall of 2020: “The major challenges of transition: re-opening the horizon, understanding in order to act”.
Two formats are offered: the first, face-to-face, lasts one week and takes place at the Forges Campus; the second, distance learning is spread over 21 hours and seven weeks, with a timetable adapted to the constraints of professional schedules.
A free resource area: the resilience and transition course
Born in the spring of 2020 from the lockdown imposed by the Covid health crisis, “Resilience & Transition” offers a free three-week online course.
In a bid to forge closer ties and to transform this unprecedented moment, marked for many by a suspended activity, into a learning opportunity capable of enlightening our future, the Campus de la Transition has drawn on the wide range of digital tools available to design a tailor-made program accessible to all.
With more than 3,500 participants, the “Resilience & Transition” course was a resounding success and was an opportunity to build a library of practical and theoretical content in open access.
