Collaboration

Transforming higher education in depth requires weaving, restoring and consolidating links between the various players in the sector. That is why the Campus de la Transition actively collaborates with a wide range of partners: universities, international research projects, public institutions, think-tanks and businesses. It is recognized for its academic and pedagogical expertise, and contributes fully to discussions on developments in higher education.

European University For Transition

The European University For Transition (EU4TRANSITION) Erasmus+ project aims to develop and implement innovative teaching/learning and research practices (e.g. new curricula, teaching methods, research agenda’s and institutional networks). The project addresses key topics which are relevant to the contemporary ecological transition at local and European level. The transition includes addressing ecological controversies and demands change in e.g. governance, economics, ethics and spirituality, construction, energy, finance, community, local, agriculture, climatology and engineering.

Between June 19th and 23rd 2023, the European University for Transition conducted their third and final Summer School at the Campus de la Transition (Forges, France).

For this event students, staff, lecturers and professors from international partner institutions gathered. In an intensive 5-day program, they were able to experience, test and comment on teaching material that has been developed for our pedagogical guide (IO1) and master course (IO2). They also participated in additional workshops and on-site activities related to the ecological and social transition, including a workshop co-created by the UvH (Henk Manschot and Caroline Suransky) and S-Composition (Jean-Pierre Seyvos and Chloé Latour).

Collaboration with the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation

The French government has commissioned climatologist – and former IPCC member – Jean Jouzel and Professor Luc Abbadie to produce a report of recommendations to guide its public policies on higher education.

Published in February 2022, the report “Sensibiliser et former aux enjeux de la transition écologique et du développement durable dans l’enseignement supérieur” is a major milestone in the drive to integrate the challenges of the ecological and social transition into curricula.

On an international scale, the European Union has also taken up these concerns, publishing in 2022 a reference framework of skills adapted to the challenges of the Ecological and Social Transition for higher education establishments (the “GreenComp”).

Against this backdrop, teachers and researchers have been called upon to review their own teaching and research practices, to bring them into line with today’s ecological and social challenges. A wide variety of initiatives have appeared, whether as part of collectives, research laboratories or associations. The Campus de la Transition and the FORTES collective are among these initiatives, launched by teachers and researchers committed to changing knowledge, teaching methods and, ultimately, higher education. They are regularly mobilized to contribute their expertise in transition pedagogy:

  • in 2018, the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation supported the Campus de la Transition and the FORTES collective to produce and publish a common foundation of knowledge and skills for transition in higher education. The result was the publication of the Great Transition Handbook (LLL 2020, English summary 2021, pocket version 2024)
  • the Campus de la Transition collaborated with Audencia Business School in the Climat Sup Business and Climat Sup Finance projects led by the Shift Project in 2022
  • since January 2023, the Campus de la Transition has been taking part in the working groups set up by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research as part of its reflections on the creation of a common foundation of knowledge and skills for the bachelor’s degree cycle in higher education.
